Protect our Primates
Primates as pets is a problem!
These intelligent and social animals, when kept as pets, pose risks to both human health and their own well-being. The reality is often heartbreaking, with primates suffering from severe mental and physical distress.
The illegal wildlife trafficking market only exacerbates the pet trade issue. In the United States alone, there are thousands of nonhuman primates in unsuitable situations as pets or in the entertainment industry. With no federal law to regulate possession of primates as pets, animals like lemurs, capuchin monkeys, and chimpanzees are often stuck suffering in those conditions.
The Captive Primate Safety Act is an important effort to federally prohibit the pet primate trade and protect these amazing animals.
