Garden Safari

May 11

Families can explore the wonderful world of wildlife together during the Family Zoo Adventure Saturday Programs.  Activities are developed for families with youth between 4 and 12.

Join us for 3 special Garden Safari programs at Cat Green this Saturday!

Cost per session:
Zoo Member: $8/person
Non-Member: $10/person

  • Plant Parts and Seed Dissection – Just like animals, plants have a life cycle. Just like the chicken or the egg, what comes first, the seeds or the plants? Our educators will guide you through an exploration of the different parts of a seed and plant.
  • Soil Layers – Did you know plants need nutrients to grow just like animals, you, and me? Where do you think they get these nutrients? From the soil! Learn more with this fun activity.
  • Plant Vascular System – Just like us, plants have a pretty complex vascular system. See it in action with this interactive activity.
  • Plant and Animal Cells – Discover the differences and similarities between animal cells (like ours!) and plant cells.
  • Tour and Family Project: Plant transects on Hill – Investigate the different plants here at the Zoo. Use hula hoops and measuring tape to measure different transects of vegetation and record your findings. All supplies are provided.
  • End the day by getting up-close and personal with one of our outreach animals!
