Mar 11, 2011

The Dallas Zoo’s African lions Kamaia and Dinari invite children to help them celebrate their second birthdays on Saturday, March 12. The brothers will show off their skills during the Predator Encounter demonstration. Afterward, the carnivorous kitties will return to their habitat at Predator Rock to discover a special meat-flavored cake created by the Executive Chef Dan Bevis and the commissary crew. They’ll also enjoy special treats with their friends, sisters Lina, Jasiri and Johari. The festivities include:

Birthday Treat. Watch the lions discover a special birthday treat after training when they come outside in their habitat Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. sharp!

Cards for Cats. Add your autograph to the birthday banner for the boys
Birthday Picture. Bring your camera and prove to everyone you know that you partied with the Kings of the Jungle by getting your picture taken with the Birthday Boys.

Gift Idea. If you’d like to give Kamaia and Dinari a present, you can choose to adopt a pride of lions or make a donation to lion conservation in their honor.

Purr-fect Party Favor. The first 200 children to attend the birthday celebration receive a free mini-cupcake.
Celebrate Spring Break. Enjoy these interesting offerings all week:

Bachelor gorillas. Juba, 9, and B’wenzi, 8, just went on exhibit at the Jake L. Hamon Gorilla Conservation Research Center. Watch Juba do a “baseball slide” across the ground and see B’wenzi barrel roll and clap with his fingers facing downward.

Expanded schedule of keeper encounters. Enjoy learning more about wildlife from the zookeepers that care for our animals every day. Check your map for schedules.

Radio Disney Day The crew from Radio Disney will bring their high-energy entertainment to the Zoo on Saturday, March 12, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with music, fun games, and prizes.

Lesser flamingo chick. The Dallas Zoo had its first successful hatching of a lesser flamingo chick on Dec. 29, 2010. See the baby bird, which has been raised by its parents in an off-exhibit enclosure; join the flock in the Wilds of Africa.
Camel rides. Adults and children can take a trek around the camel habitat in ZooNorth.

Spring Break Camp. Bring the kids back this week for Animal Adventure Camp. Choose one day or the entire week. Visit for information or to register.

DART. Add to the adventure and take the DART Red Line to the Dallas Zoo. The train stops across from the Zoo entrance and you’ll avoid the spring break traffic and parking fee.
