Charity Navigator has awarded its highest rating to the Dallas Zoological Society
Jan 28, 2011

Charity Navigator has awarded its highest rating to the Dallas Zoological Society. America’s largest independent evaluator of charities evaluates efficiency and organizational capacity of nonprofit organizations. This rating means that DZS ranks among the top 25 percent of all charities in the United States for successfully managing finances in an efficient and effective manner.

“Because the Dallas Zoo is now privately managed, we have significantly increased our fund raising efforts to generate additional revenue to support the Zoo’s ongoing capital improvements program, its operating budget, and its conservation programs. In short, we are working hard to provide greater levels of private support to our Zoo wherever it is needed,” said Michael L. Meadows, president and chief executive officer of DZS. “We hope that the high rating from Charity Navigator will give our donors even greater confidence that their contributions are being managed and spent wisely to make our Zoo even better. ”

As the nonprofit sector continues to grow at an unprecedented pace, donors are demanding more accountability, transparency, and quantifiable results from the charities they choose to support. Charity Navigator bases evaluations on financial information each charity provides in its IRS Form 990 tax returns. Charity Navigator is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization under the Internal Revenue Code and does not accept any contributions from any of the charities it evaluates.
