Gooty sapphire ornamental tarantula

Poecilotheria metallica
PROFILE:

Gooty sapphire tarantulas are native to the forests of east Gooty, India. Their strikingly beautiful blue coloration comes from tiny hairs that line their bodies. Scientists are not sure what purpose the blue coloration serves. They are venomous! One bite can cause excruciating pain that can last over a week. Due to deforestation, the Gooty sapphire tarantula is now critically endangered. The remaining wild population inhabits a single area of less than 100 square kilometers.
