INTERPRETIVE MANAGER
We have an exceptional career opportunity for an Interpretive Manager. The Interpretive Manager will be responsible for delivering a dynamic guest experience on a daily basis at the Dallas Zoo’s new “Giants of the Savanna” habitat. Scheduled to open in May 2010, this 10-acre habitat will feature a variety of large African animals in a unique, interactive setting. The Interpretive Manager will work collaboratively with various departments and consultants to develop and deliver appropriate wildlife messages to our guests through trained wildlife behaviors and presentations. This position will oversee a team of staff interpreters and volunteers to help achieve the desired program goals in the new habitat. Other responsibilities include:
Assist with the development of dynamic wildlife presentations at the Giants of the Savanna habitat.
Work collaboratively with various Savanna departments to achieve program goals that enrich the lives of the animals and provide memorable and educational experiences for our guests.
Handle and train appropriate wildlife for use in the Giants of the Savanna habitat.
Present interpretive programs for the guests as needed.
Coordinate the daily interpretive program and keeper talk schedule in the Savanna exhibit.
Maintain records and documentation for various Savanna interpretive activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Degree in Education, Zoology, Biology, Animal Science, Psychology, or related field.
Minimum 4 years of wildlife training experience utilizing operant conditioning, with an emphasis on positive reinforcement. Preferable experience as an employee or contracted professional of an AZA accredited zoo or aquarium.
Minimum 4 years of experience in a manager/supervisor capacity, preferably in an AZA accredited zoological park or aquarium.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills required.
Candidate must possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to function in a creative team-oriented environment.
