DIRECTOR OF SAFETY & SECURITY
We have an exceptional career opportunity for a Director of Safety & Security. The Director of Safety & Security will be responsible for the coordination of safety and security programs, inspections, recommendations and training to protect guests, staff, on-site vendors, contractors and the animal collection. Other areas of responsibility includes restaurant and snack shops, amusement rides, gift shops, restrooms, administrative offices and meeting spaces, warehouse, skilled trade shops, green house, storage barns, animal holding and quarantine buildings and yards, classrooms, play grounds, and an animal hospital. Other responsibilities will include:
Conduct, monitor, review and analyze animal containment and facility safety inspections.
Conduct periodic inspections of major equipment.
Monitor amusement ride inspection and licensing.
Coordinate third-party inspections and responses including Fire Marshall, fire extinguishers, boilers, sprinkler systems, and alarm systems.
Review, analyze, investigate accident reports and trends and prepare corrective action recommendations based on inspections and/or accident reports.
Conduct emergency procedures review, revision, and training.
Develop and implement safety training programs including Hazard Communication Program, Drug and Alcohol Program, Weekly Toolbox Safety Training Sessions and position specific training/certifications.
Develop a Safety Handbook, Safety Incentive Program, and Supervisor Safety Excellence Awards.
Monitor building alarm systems and response.
Develop access control plan. Conduct perimeter fence and gate inspections.
Recommend, implement and monitor security lighting and cameras.
Coordinate contract security service or develop in-house security operation.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have five years experience in Occupational Safety.
Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Safety & Health or related field. An additional two years related experience may substitute for the Bachelor Degree.
Must have current certifications in First Aid, Defibrillation and CPR.
Completion of OSHA 30-hour General Industry course.
Must be able to work or be on call for emergencies nights and weekends.
Must be able to climb ladders or go on scaffolding, work in roof spaces, crawl spaces, inside facilities and outdoors.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Must be capable of learning new database programs.
Must be able to maintain calm in high stress environment and situations.
Must have excellent communication skills and be able to work effectively and efficiently with other professionals.
Must be self-motivated and well organized.
Familiarity with ISO 18001 standards is a plus.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) speaking and writing skills are a plus.
