Wage Range: $14.00-$16.00

Reporting Relationship

The Park Service Assistant Manager reports directly to the Assistant General Manager of Park Operations and General Manager of the unit.


Purpose and Scope

The purpose of the Park Service Assistant Manager is to ensure that the Park Service Department provides every guest a clean facility to visit, the entire animal staff has bedding/waste delivered/removed, all events are setup in a timely and efficient manner, and all offices are cleaned.  Also, this position will participate in the Zoo and SSA Green Team meetings and functions.


  • Manage all Janitorial functions within public view, inside the zoo gates
  • Manage all Perimeter functions in parking lots, back areas, hay barns and dumpster yards
  • Manage all Janitorial functions in all office areas of the zoo
  • Hiring and training of all Park Service team members in all procedures and operation of all equipment
  • Maintain all paperwork pertaining to cleaning logs, deliveries and other Park Service checklists
  • Purchase all cleaning supplies and equipment and maintain their inventory
  • Develop and implement budget for operations department
  • Oversee procurement and R&M of all non-food SSA equipment (radios, golf carts, wagons/jeeps, etc)
  • Assist in equipment setup for all catered events
  • Assist in SSA warehousing functions
  • Maintain and Update all Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
  • Serve as a liaison between SSA management and Dallas Zoo management to ensure that contract expectations are being met satisfactorily



  • 3-5 years experience in Janitorial/Custodial services (Similar operations of theme park or zoo is a plus)
  • Knowledge and experienced in training employees on all aspects of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and OSHA standards
  • Knowledge of the composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience maintaining an inventory system
  • Strong leadership, follow up and communication skills
  • Scheduling/staffing knowledge in order to maximize efficiencies
  • Must be able to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, etc.
