When are you open?

The Zoo is open every day except Christmas. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from March 1 to Oct. 23, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. the rest of the year.

May I bring pets into the Zoo?

For the safety of our animals and yours, the Dallas Zoo does not allow pets on the grounds. However, certified service animals are permitted.

May I bring my own food and drinks?

Guests may bring their own food and drinks, although glass items, alcoholic beverages and lightweight, single-use straws are not permitted. There are no facilities available for food or cooler storage. We have several restaurants and food and beverage carts on the grounds with a wide selection of healthy, affordable menu items.

May I bring a weapon to the Zoo?

No. Under state law, the Zoo is considered both an amusement park and an educational institution, so concealed weapons aren’t allowed, even for licensed holders of concealed handgun permits.

What is the smoking policy at the Zoo?

As a City of Dallas-owned park, we must comply with the city ordinance that allows smoking. However, smoking is prohibited in some areas. Essentially, we limit smoking to large, open areas where our non-smoking guests have room to move around and for smoke to quickly dissipate.  Should you observe a guest violating one of these prohibitions, please report it to the first Zoo employee you see, and we’ll immediately address the situation. Areas where smoking is prohibited:

  • Buildings and within 25 feet of building entrances
  • The Lacerte Family Children’s Zoo
  • The Wildlife Amphitheater
  • ZooNorth Pavilion tent
  • Gorilla Trail
  • Endangered Species Carousel
  • Monorail Safari
  • Safari Express mini-train

Are commercial photography and videography allowed?

Wedding and portrait photography is allowed at the Dallas Zoo.  Fees are charged by the hour. People intending to take photos/film/video for commercial purposes at the Dallas Zoo or the Children’s Aquarium at Fair Park must submit a request in writing to the DZS Marketing Department before the date of the intended photo shoot. For a detailed photography policy, visit our website.

May I leave and come back in?

We prefer to limit in-and-outs, but you may return to your vehicle if you forgot something you need.

If my membership expires, do I have to pay for parking?

Yes. Only current DZS members with a valid membership card and ID receive free parking.

Are there baby-changing stations?

Yes, in every set of restrooms.

Are there water fountains?

Yes, located in various areas of the Zoo.

Are there restrictions for pony rides?

Yes, to ride a pony, you must weigh less than 80 pounds.

Can you feed the animals?

Our animals are on special diets, so outside food is not permitted. Guests may purchase special items from the Zoo to feed the giraffes, lorikeets and the birds at Travis & Zach’s Birds Landing.

Are shoes required?

Shoes are strongly recommended for all Zoo guests. A badly stubbed toe or other injury could ruin your visit!

How can I volunteer at the Zoo?

We love our volunteers! Go to www.DallasZoo.com, pull down the “About Us” tab and look for “Volunteers.”

Will I see every animal?

Our exhibits are designed to be as naturalistic as possible, because that’s best for the animals. Sometimes, that means they will find a secluded place to rest, so they won’t be easily visible. Different animals also are more active at various times of the day.
