Saturday nights will sizzle this summer at the Dallas Zoo, when the Safari Nights evening concert series returns featuring great music, extended hours and a chance to mingle with some of the stars of the Zoo.

 

TONIGHT’S CONCERT FEATURES FASTLANE

FastLane – a tribute to the Eagles has been together since 2005 and plays to thousands each year at festivals, clubs and special events such as, Dallas Zoo’s Safari Nights. Thanks to the overwhelming popularity of the Eagles’ music, FastLane can perform show up to four hours in length and include all the hits made famous by The Eagles. Their performances will have you on your feet dancing, singing, and enjoying that “Peaceful Easy Feeling” once more.

The concerts are FREE with the price of Zoo admission and begin at 7 p.m. Food will be available for purchase, along with soft drinks, cold beer and wine.

TONIGHT’S CONCERT FEATURES A HARD NIGHT’S DAY

Internationally renowned Beatles tribute band, A Hard Night’s Day, has been spreading the gospel of John, Paul, George and Ringo around the world for 13 years. Their electrifying performances will take you back to the heyday of the Beatles.

With A Hard Night’s Day extensive repertoire of music – over 200 classics and nuggets, you will never see the same show twice! The band has been personally endorsed by the Beatles first manager Allen Williams.

The concerts are FREE with the price of Zoo admission and begin at 7 p.m. Food will be available for purchase, along with soft drinks, cold beer and wine.

Photo Safari Overnight

Are you game for an overnight adventure? Spend the night at the Zoo, photographing animals after it closes to the public. You’ll enjoy a gourmet dinner and have the opportunity to discuss your favorite photographs. After spending the night in our Camp Okapi jungle-style bunkhouse tents, you’ll awake to a sunrise breakfast, then visit some of the Zoo’s most charismatic animals. Groups are limited to 28 participants to ensure excellent access. Accommodations are basic and no shower facilities are available. The session ends at 9 a.m., and participants may stay at Zoo and photograph for the remainder of the day. TONIGHT’S CONCERT FEATURES SARA HICKMAN

Sara Hickman has garnered recognition as a captivating singer/songwriter, vocalist and musician, with artists such as Shawn Colvin, the Flatlanders, Robert Earl Keen, Willie Nelson and many others covering her songs. On her Kirtland Records debut release Shine, Hickman delivers another memorable collection of 10 songs that will take the listener on an intense journey destined to evoke a broad spectrum of emotions.

Since she started performing at the age of seven, Hickman has been embraced by both followers and critics. The Associated Press proclaims, “Seek out her albums and club shows for her melodic sense, excellent guitar playing, rich voice and mix of sunny optimism with heartache.” Hickman’s home state of Texas loves her too, naming her the 2010-2011 “Official State Musician of Texas,” joining luminaries such as Willie Nelson and Lyle Lovett.

TONIGHT’S CONCERT FEATURES ESCAPE

ESCAPE is a Dallas-based band performing a musical tribute to the arena rock supergroup….Journey. Since 2006, ESCAPE has been performing all over the DFW metroplex and beyond to packed venues where the crowds love to sing along and dance to the timeless music of Journey, both old and new. As a tribute band, this gives ESCAPE the advantage of appealing to a wide audience that spans across all ages and musical tastes. The band consists of veteran musicians who bring a dynamic, high-energy presentation to every show. Their goal is to get people off their chairs to sing along and dance to the music. Journey’s music is very much a positive message and the band’s show is all about having a fun time for everyone attending.

For the past three decades the Denton, Texas based quintet has perfected a world music mix that includes salsa, meringue, rock, cumbia, conjunto, polka, zydeco, classical, cha cha, the blues and more.  They are America’s Premier Dance band and a rollicking, rocking, rhythmic global journey — offering what one critic recently wrote, “Even if you come for the party, you’ll leave with something of a musical education.”

Half-day Group Photo Safari

Capture amazing shots of wild and exotic animals in their naturalistic habitats with Dallas Zoo staff photographer Cathy Burkey. With help from zookeepers and guidance and tips from Cathy, you’re guaranteed excellent photos of animals foraging for their breakfast, romping and playing, and exhibiting other natural behaviors. You’ll meet at 8 a.m. for a continental breakfast, then set out to explore some of the Zoo’s most interesting and charismatic animals. Groups are limited to 15 participants to ensure individual attention. The session concludes at noon, and participants are welcome to stay at the Zoo for the day.

Time: 8 a.m. to noon

Cost per person: $45 for members; $55 for non-members
