TONIGHT’S CONCERT FEATURES THE RELATIVES

The Relatives – Call it Gospel Funk! In truth, the sound of The Relatives is so much more. Formed in 1970 by veteran Dallas Gospel singer Rev. Gean West and his brother Tommie, The Relatives’ sound bridges the gap between traditional Gospel, Soul and Psychedelia. In the early 1970’s, they recorded three obscure singles and a previously unreleased session—all of which are compiled on the acclaimed 2009 anthology, Don’t Let Me Fall. The release of the anthology brought The Relatives back together as a band, planting the seeds for their 2013 Yep Roc release, The Electric Word, which was recorded and produced by Jim Eno of Spoon. The concerts are FREE with the price of Zoo admission and begin at 7 p.m. Food will be available for purchase, along with soft drinks, cold beer and wine.

The Bird Dogs – From the backwoods of Argyle, Texas, George Dunham and the Bird Dogs have sprung onto the Texas music scene to deliver an old-fashioned, good-time country arse-whippin’ to all the fine music-lovin’ folk. The music of George Dunham delivers a powerful blend of Texas-country, gritty rock and three-part harmonies, with songs that reflect strong family ties, love and loss, and hope for the future.

Endangered Species Weekend

Endangered Species Weekend – Saving Animals

At the Dallas Zoo, we’re passionate about wildlife and we know you are, too. We’re working tirelessly to save animals from extinction, but the challenges are great and we need your help to succeed. Join us May 16-17 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) for Endangered Species Weekend.

Learn more about our fascinating animals through family-friendly activities at stations across the Zoo and a shark station at our affiliated Children’s Aquarium at Fair Park. Discover how the Dallas Zoo is helping save elephants, cheetahs, penguins, and gorillas in Africa, as well as the monarch butterfly right here at home. Explore green actions we can all take together on behalf of endangered species and consider a pledge to help us reach our weekend goal of 1,000 new pledges for conservation action — imagine the difference we’ll make!

The extinction crisis is real and the threats to our animals are great. Our wild and beautiful world needs our attention like never before. Working together, we can meet the challenges head-on. We can achieve great things, save vulnerable species from extinction, and together protect wildlife for generations to come.
