Saving Woodpeckers in Big Thicket

January 13 - January 15

$249

Enjoy a weekend in the forest with Dallas Zoo!

Start your new year off right and help the Dallas Zoo create a better world for animals in the Big Thicket National Preserve over MLK, Jr. weekend, January 13-15. Our goal is to plant 15,000 longleaf pines to restore habitat for the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker.

Search for the endangered and elusive red-cockaded woodpecker and learn to identify eight woodpecker species. Enjoy an evening owl prowl while keeping an eye out for Big Foot. Meet the president of the Texas Black Bear Alliance and hear about the effort to restore the black bear to east Texas. Take a guided hike with park rangers through old growth pine forest and learn more about the unique ecology of the Big Thicket. Meet an endangered Louisiana pine snake and learn all about Ellen Trout Zoo’s propagation and release program. Build conservation community with colleagues from the National Parks Conservation Association and Big Thicket Conservation Association.

Your registration includes seven meals, snacks, all educational programs, and use of tree planting equipment. Transportation and lodging are not included. Lodging options will be emailed with registration.
