Nature Explorers
Grades:  PreK – Kindergarten
Length:  45 minutes

Get an up-close view of the world around you! Join us for an interactive adventure in the Zoo to learn through nature observations. Students will participate in a guided interactive experience, a hands-on activity using scientific tools, and experience a live education animal to truly bring nature to life. Programs are aligned to Texas Preschool Guidelines and Kindergarten TEKS.

Cost:  $80/program (1- 20 students). $4/ additional student (max 30 students per program). Does NOT include Zoo admission. You receive 1 free adult per 10 students. Due to space limitation, only free chaperones may attend the program. *We require payment for a minimum of 20 participants.


Happening Habitats
Grades: 1 – 2
Length:  45 minutes

Have you ever wondered how animals rely on their habitats to meet their basic needs? Learn what it takes to meet the needs of the magnificent animals that call the Dallas Zoo home. Students will make animal-related discoveries through observations in a guided interactive experience, design their own animal habitats, and experience a live education animal. *We require payment for a minimum of 20 participants.

Cost:  $80/program (1- 20 students). $4/ additional student (max 30 students per program). Does NOT include Zoo admission. You receive 1 free adult per 10 students. Due to space limitation, only free chaperones may attend the program. *We require payment for a minimum of 20 participants.

 


Music and Motion –  CLOSED for 2016-2017 School Year

Grades: 1 6
Length: One 45 minute Guided Tour. One 45 minute Classroom Program. 90 minutes total.

In partnership with the Dallas Zoo, the DSO presents “Music and Motion”, a program that uses animal motion to bring music and science together. These concerts are the culmination of this partnership, featuring famous music inspired by animals, as well as orchestral arrangements of animal-inspired melodies by local students.

Key components:

Field Trip: Students will visit the Zoo on selected program date in the fall semester.

Animal Adaptations Tour: A Zoo educator will guide students through a 45-minute tour observing animal movements and connecting to Science TEKS regarding adaptations/physical traits for animal survival.

Music Composition Class: Following the tour, a DSO educator will lead a 45-minute program at the Zoo applying the students’ observations of animal movements to compose a melody.

DSO will combine selected excerpts of the “Music and Motion” melodies to create a single composition to be featured in the Youth Concerts performed by the DSO in January, 2017.

Cost:  $120/program (1-20 students). $6/ additional student (max 30 students per program). Does NOT include Zoo admission. You receive 1 free adult per 10 students. Due to space limitation, only free chaperones may attend the program. *We require payment for a minimum of 20 participants.

Programs will be offered at 10:30 am on Tuesdays and Fridays between Labor Day and November 11. Blackout dates are October 18 and 21, 2016.


Animal Adaptations
Grades:  3 – 5
Length:  45 minutes

How do animals survive in the environment? They have amazing adaptations! Explore how body coverings, body parts, and behaviors help an animal survive. Compare and contrast physical characteristics of different animals with help from a few live animals in the classroom.

Animal Food Chains & Webs
Grades:  3-5
Length: 45 minutes

Bring predators and prey to life! Discover how energy is transferred in food chains and food webs. Through hands-on activities and live animals, students learn how animals are connected and depend upon each other and their environments to survive.

Wild Jobs at the Zoo
Grades:  3 – 12
Length:  45 minutes

Find your career at a zoo! Zoos offer many career choices such as zoo keeper, animal curator, accountant, exotic animal veterinarian, and so much more! This interactive program opens students’ eyes to the diversity of careers associated with a zoo and how to prepare for them. The Wild Jobs at the Zoo program includes at least one live education animal.
