Teacher’s Guide

We offer a variety of TEKS-aligned classroom programs to enhance your curriculum and inspire animal lovers of all ages! All of our classroom programs are led by Dallas Zoo instructors and held in one of our many Zoo classrooms.

Grades: PreK-Kinder

Zippity Zoo!
This multidisciplinary literacy based PreK-K program introduces students to reading skills, phonetics, and natural history. Each Zippity Zoo! program includes a story and a live animal encounter. Programs are 30-minutes long. Choose from the following topics: African Savanna, Barnyard, Bug, or Pond.

Cost (PreK-K): $170 (up to 20 students). $8.50/per additional student. All program prices include field trip admission and 1 free adult per 10 students. *Prices are subject to change.

Program Times – Programs are offered Monday through Friday between 9:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Grades: K-12

Animal Close-Ups: Adaptations
How do animals survive in their environments? They adapt! Learn about just a few of these special adaptations in this 45-minute live animal program. Program can be customized to particular topics, too (e.g. reptiles, nocturnal animals, mammals etc…).

Animal Close-Ups: Classification
How do scientists classify animals? Explore the diversity of animal coverings by meeting live animals. They may be bumpy, scaly, smooth, soft, or spiny in this 45-minute interactive and hands-on program.

Animal Close-Ups: Food Webs
Producers, consumers, and decomposers, oh my! Get caught up in a food web by learning how animals are connected to one another by what they eat! Make an interactive food web and meet live animals that depend on each other in an ecosystem! Program is 45 minutes long.

Grades 5– 12

Wild Jobs
Want to work at the Zoo? From accounting to zookeeping, this interactive program teaches students about the diverse jobs a zoo has to offer and how to prepare for them. This program includes an up-close encounter with one of our education animals!

Cost (K-12): $180 (up to 20 students). $9/per additional student. All program prices include field trip admission and 1 free adult per 10 students. *Prices are subject to change.

Program Times – Programs are offered Monday through Friday between 9:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Classroom programs must be paid in full at least one (1) week prior to the scheduled program date. Refunds will not be given for cancellations made within two weeks of the scheduled date.
