Guided Tours and Classroom Programs

Add one of our of TEKS-aligned classroom programs to your field trip to enhance your curriculum and inspire animal lovers of all ages! All of our classroom programs are led by Dallas Zoo instructors and held in one of our many Zoo classrooms.

Tours and programs are offered at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 12 p.m., and 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. The maximum class size is 30 students. Only required adult chaperones (1 per 10 students) will be admitted to the program.

To register for a classroom program, complete the field trip registration and add-on a classroom program.


Guided Tour: African Safari
Grades: 1 – 12
Length: 45 minutes

What does it take to survive on the savanna? Explore the Savanna with and discover the specialized adaptations of the animals who call the Dallas Zoo’s Giants of the Savanna home.

Cost: $80/program (Up to 20 students). $4/ additional student (max 30 students per program). Does NOT include Zoo admission. You receive 1 free adult per 10 students. Due to space limitation, only free chaperones may attend the program.


Nature Explorers
Grades:  PreK – Kindergarten
Length:  45 minutes

Get an up-close view of the world around you! Join us for an interactive adventure in the Zoo to learn through nature observations. Students will participate in a guided interactive experience, a hands-on activity using scientific tools, and experience a live education animal to truly bring nature to life. Programs are aligned to Texas Preschool Guidelines and Kindergarten TEKS.

Cost:  $80/program (1- 20 students). $4/ additional student (max 30 students per program). Does NOT include Zoo admission. Zoo admission is required for attending program. You receive 1 free adult per 10 students. Due to space limitation, only free chaperones may attend the program.


Animals on the Move
Grades: PreK-2
Length: 45 minutes

Compare how birds, reptiles and mammals move.

Cost:  $80/program (1- 20 students). $4/ additional student (max 30 students per program). Does NOT include Zoo admission. Zoo admission is required for attending program. You receive 1 free adult per 10 students. Due to space limitation, only free chaperones may attend the program.


Happening Habitats
Grades: 1 – 2
Length:  45 minutes

Have you ever wondered how animals rely on their habitats to meet their basic needs? Learn what it takes to meet the needs of the magnificent animals that call the Dallas Zoo home. Students will make animal-related discoveries through observations in a guided interactive experience, design their own animal habitats, and experience a live education animal.

Cost:  $80/program (1- 20 students). $4/ additional student (max 30 students per program). Does NOT include Zoo admission. Zoo admission is required for attending program. You receive 1 free adult per 10 students. Due to space limitation, only free chaperones may attend the program.


Animal Adaptations
Grades:  3 – 5
Length:  45 minutes

How do animals survive in the environment? They have amazing adaptations! Explore how body coverings, body parts, and behaviors help an animal survive. Compare and contrast physical characteristics of different animals with help from a few live animals in the classroom.

Cost:  $80/program (1-20 students). $4/ additional student (max 30 students per program). Does NOT include Zoo admission. Zoo admission is required for attending program. You receive 1 free adult per 10 students. Due to space limitation, only free chaperones may attend the program.


Animal Food Chains & Webs
Grades:  3-5
Length: 45 minutes

Bring predators and prey to life! Discover how energy is transferred in food chains and food webs. Through hands-on activities and live animals, students learn how animals are connected and depend upon each other and their environments to survive.

Cost:  $80/program (1-20 students). $4/ additional student (max 30 students per program). Does NOT include Zoo admission. Zoo admission is required for attending program. You receive 1 free adult per 10 students. Due to space limitation, only free chaperones may attend the program.


Wild Jobs at the Zoo
Grades:  3 – 12
Length:  45 minutes

Find your career at a zoo! Zoos offer many career choices such as zoo keeper, animal curator, accountant, exotic animal veterinarian, and so much more! This interactive program opens students’ eyes to the diversity of careers associated with a zoo and how to prepare for them. The Wild Jobs at the Zoo program includes at least one live education animal.

Cost:  $80/program (1- 20 students). $4/ additional student (max 30 students per program). Does NOT include Zoo admission. Zoo admission is required for attending program.  You receive 1 free adult per 10 students. Due to space limitation, only free chaperones may attend the program.


Veterinary Science
Grades:  3 – 12
Length:  45 minutes

Learn how veterinarians care for animals.

Cost:  $80/program (1- 20 students). $4/ additional student (max 30 students per program). Does NOT include Zoo admission. Zoo admission is required for attending program.  You receive 1 free adult per 10 students. Due to space limitation, only free chaperones may attend the program.
