Three-toed Box Turtle
SCIENTIFIC NAME:
Terrapene carolina triunguis
PROFILE:
True to its name, the box turtle shuts itself up like a box when threatened. It has a hinge in its plastron (the bottom half of its shell) that it uses to seal itself up nice and tight! The three-toed box turtle is a subspecies of the Eastern box turtle.
