Anolis carolinensis

Green anoles sometimes are called “American chameleons” because they have the ability to change color from a dark brown to a vivid green. They are not, however, true chameleons! If you want to see some of those, make your way up to the ZooNorth Herpetarium, and see if you can find the panther and veiled chameleons. Green anoles are quite common here in Texas and are the only native anole species in the United States.
