SCIENTIFIC NAME:
Potamochoerus porcus
PROFILE:

By far the reddest pig, the red river hog is omnivorous and nocturnal. They are highly sociable animals, with the male remaining amongst his harem of females and offspring while helping defend them. Sometimes these small family groups of 4 to 6 members congregate into wandering groups of 50 or more. You can see our red river hogs in the Giants of the Savanna exhibit.
