Males are characterized by their S shaped horns and differ greatly in appearance from the females. The males are a dark brown color and have a large white patch of fur just behind their neck in comparison the female is a dark blonde color with small approximately 3 inch horns.
TYPE OF ANIMAL:
South to Central Africa restricted to Swamp and Floodplain margins. Swamps in Bostwana and Nambia.

Mainly eat green aquatic plants and grasses.
wild - 15 years; zoos - 25 years
Males and females form separate groups. Female groups have no leader as compared to that of the male. Males are very territorial and females are often found near water sources.
