PROFILE:

Hornbills’ beaks are made of a bony framework covered by keratin, which is a substance similar to fingernails. So even though they look heavy, their beaks are actually very lightweight.

Southern Bhutan and northeast India to eastern Vietnam and south to Sumatra, Borneo, Bali, and Java

wild 35-40 years; zoos up to 50 years

Breeding pairs generally mate for life
